Metaplanet raises $745m to expand Bitcoin holdings in bid for Asia’s largest crypto deal

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has unveiled an ambitious plan to acquire 21,000 Bitcoin (BTC) by 2026. The Tokyo-based public investment firm aims to become one of the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holders. The firm’s strategy, announced in a press release on January 28, includes raising ¥116.65 billion (approximately $750 million) through the issuance of 21 million shares. This move marks the largest equity capital raise for Bitcoin in Asia to date.

Metaplanet’s 2025-2026 Bitcoin plan highlights their dedication to innovation and leadership in Bitcoin treasury management. The firm intends to expand its Bitcoin holdings and maximize BTC yield, offering long-term value to shareholders.

Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s representative director, emphasized that the market has already recognized the firm as Tokyo’s leading Bitcoin entity. He explained, "We are seizing this momentum to further cement our global leadership position."

In 2024, Metaplanet made significant strides, achieving a record BTC Yield of 309.82% in Q4. By the year’s end, the firm held 1,761 Bitcoin, valued at over ¥27.7 billion ($178 million). Metaplanet’s market capitalization surged 7,000?ter adopting the Bitcoin Standard, and the company’s shareholder base expanded to over 50,000. As a result, shares in the firm rose by 3.1% in pre-market trading, according to Yahoo Finance.

Metaplanet is positioning itself at the forefront of the Bitcoin renaissance in Japan, with plans to solidify its place among the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders.
