Swiss banking giant UBS has successfully completed a proof-of-concept test for its UBS Key4 Gold offering on Ethereum’s layer-2 network, ZKSync. This experiment reflects a growing interest among traditional financial institutions in leveraging blockchain technology for asset management. UBS Key4 Gold allows Swiss clients to invest in fractional gold with real-time pricing and secure storage. While UBS has already implemented a private blockchain for this product, the bank is now exploring ZKSync’s zero-knowledge proof technology as a potential scalability solution. Arbitrum, one of Ethereum’s leading Layer-2 scaling solutions, has announced a new integration with Bitcoin through BitcoinOS, a smart contract system for BTC. This move enables a “hybrid rollup” model, allowing Bitcoin holders to participate in Ethereum-based decentralized finance (DeFi) applications while maintaining Bitcoin’s security and decentralization principles. Arbitrum, which currently leads the Layer-2 market with over $16 billion in total value locked (TVL), expects this integration to unlock Bitcoin’s $2 trillion liquidity pool for DeFi projects.
